I decided to use to use an excellent tool called Archivemail for two purposes: 1. To archive mail (duh!) and 2. to delete old mail such as mailing lists (already mirrored everywhere on the web) and spam.
This short script is run everyday at 17:00 by cron:

One of my main gripes with Mutt was how cumbersome it was to manage mailing lists. Every time I subscribed to a new mailing list I had to A. add a new line to .procmailrc for filtering, B. create a new maildir and C. add the mailing list and mailbox to lists and mailboxes in [...]

Finished reading Thief of Time, by Terry Pratchett. The 26th Discworld book, starring Death, Susan, the Monks of History and Lu Tze the sweeper and his apprentice Lobsang Ludd. As always with the Discworld books, never a dull moment!
